Fries Museum, Leeuwarden NL (Eng)
The upcoming generation of producers in Colorado and Friesland are shown.
2014, Farmers & Ranchers
21 November 2014 - 10 May 2015
Farmers & Ranchers shows how established clichés about the countryside are changing. Wapke worked with young people from dairy country Friesland (an icon in milk cow breading) and from the cowboy state of Colorado (the filmic rodeo, rangers and ranchers area). All young people involved are studying agriculture and from 2013 were asked to photograph their lives on the land. There is a film made with Kim Shively from M12studio showing them visiting each other’s farms or ranch and talking about their family businesses. The prairies and meadows are their places of work, and they’re eager to take over.
They are growing up in a changing landscapes.
