Wapke is at the moment learning about soil-drilling, and is setting up drillings at locations where she is involved with a cultural project, or plans to start one.
31 March 2007 she started practising her drillings during a residency at Grizedale Arts. From now all places will be mapped by a soilsample and some registration of the grounds.
In May she is focussing on Wjelsryp, her home village in Friesland. The concept derives from thinking about the land that has been used by her family since 1880; and connects farming and ownership issues in relation to village culture. During the summer she plans to look into the village archives, together with her sister Pietsie Feenstra, who is teaching film and culture at the Sorbonne III Paris.
The drilling project focuses on the relation between land and culture, with the aim to collect some of the grounds that our culture is based on.

Wapke leert op het moment de ins en outs van grondboren. Ze gaat op de plaatsen waar ze al werkt, of gaat starten met een cultureel project, grondboringen doen.
Ze is begonnen met de boringen op 31 maart 2007, tijdens de residency bij Grizedale Arts. Van nu af aan zullen alle locaties waar Wapke werkt door middel van grondboringen in kaart worden gebracht. In mei zal ze werken in Wjelsryp, het dorp in Friesland waar ze vandaan komt. Het concept is ontstaan vanuit de gedachte over het bewerken van het land dat al sinds 1880 familie bezit is; het legt verband tussen het boeren en landbezit in relatie tot dorpscultuur. In de zomer gaat ze samen met haar zus Pietsie Feenstra, die les geeft op de Sorbonne III in Parijs, de lokale archieven induiken. Met grondboringen legt Wapke een verband tussen grond en cultuur.
