‘Switched >ON<’ addressed some of the ways in which new technology has infiltrated the conscious strategies and methodologies of a growing number of artists. For them new technologies make it possible to conceptualize and employ an amplified range of expressive and communicative possibilities. The exhibition presented a range of means and materials, from custom electronics, microprocessors, interactive computer touch screens and electric motors, to digitally mediated photographs and videos.
The participating artists engaged in a visual and audio dialogue that furthers the Constructivists’ goal of advancing societal development through the use of the ‘tools of one’s time’. Artists in the show were Jim Campbell, Rebecca Carter, Shawn Decker, Paul Devens, Kirsten Geisler, Valerie Lamontagne, Jeff Shore & Jon Fisher, Brad Todd, Dolores Wilber and Wapke Feenstra.
Wapke showed a number of giclée prints from the SPOT series 2001-06, 2001-03, 2001-04 & ‘Spot in a box’. Since ‘Switched >ON<’ ‘Spot in a box’ is part of the Chicago based collection of Curt Conklin.

‘Switched >ON<’ belichtte de manier waarop nieuwe technologieën de werkwijze van een groeiende groep kunstenaars beïnvloeden. Kunstenaars zetten deze technologieën in voor een scala aan expressieve en communicatieve mogelijkheden. De tentoonstelling presenteerde allerlei middelen en materialen, van aangepaste elektronica, microprocessors, touchscreens en elektronische motoren tot digitaal bewerkte foto’s en video’s.
De kunstenaars gingen een audiovisuele dialoog aan die het constructivistische doel van maatschappelijke vooruitgang door het gebruik van ‘gereedschappen uit de eigen tijd’ onderstreept. Deelnemende kunstenaars waren Jim Campbell, Rebecca Carter, Shawn Decker, Paul Devens, Kirsten Geisler, Valerie Lamontagne, Jeff Shore & Jon Fisher, Brad Todd, Dolores Wilber en Wapke Feenstra.
Wapke toonde een reeks giclée prints uit de SPOT series 2001-06, 2001-03, 2001-04 & ‘Spot in a box’. Sinds ‘Switched >ON<’ maakt ‘Spot in a box’ deel uit van de Curt Conklin collectie, Chicago.
