From 6 May till 11 June Wapke Feenstra’s work is part of the exhibition “What happens, is determined by the place” in the L.A.C. LIEU D’ART CONTEMPORAIN in Sigean (France). This is an exhibition within the scope of the Bavarian Cultural Weeks and is orginazed by Galerie der Künstler in Munich. This exhibition presents twelve artists based on the quality of their work, each one of them has won the Bavarian Förderungspreis or the Förderungspreis der Landeshauptstadt München. They present paintings, installations, photo’s, mixed media, e.g.
The Bavarian artists Kathrin Böhm en Stefan Saffer suggested Wapke to participate as ‘Zaungast’. This was in connection with her stay in Villa Waldberta, where they had visited her. Wapke presented primarily as theme the field of tention between fiction and reality. A photo of cheerful Wapke in a rented traditional folk costume shows that she does not want to be an outsider or a commentator when she is in Bavaria. As an artist she wants to make things, to play light-heartedly outside, to look around and meet people. Initially they emphazised that Wapke could not walk around in a traditional folk costume, because it is part of the Bavarian culture. When she finally could rent a costume, the Bavarian pulled her breasts together and upwards, because “you must show your heart in a costume like this.” In this way Wapke connected with her own views on Munich: the rural everyday clothing of the people showed much resemblance with the traditional dress code. The photo in the exhibition is from two years earlier, when Wapke had a series of photo’s taken of herself in this Bavarain folk costume. Here she poses on the stairs of Villa Waldberta, her temporary residence in Bavaria. A leaflet with another photo of Wapke in Dirndl and the text “Immer erreichbar” from 1998 also form part of this exhibition. The leaflet was laying on the colourful beer tables of Stefan Saffer. Kathrin Böhm made a collage on the wall with colourful tape.
Wapke’s photo in the catalogue is accompanied by a text that describes how and where she and her artist friends, Kathrin Böhm en Stefan Saffer, met. The text emphasizes on the artists regional backgrounds:
“Frankonian hearts beat for Frisian breasts put in a Bavarian drindl.”
The existence in traveling shapes a contrast. The text decribes all the places where the artists met before, being Nuremberg, Madrid, Venice, Rotterdam, Copenhagen, Krakov, London and Munich.

Vanaf 6 mei tot 11 juni maakt Wapke Feenstra’s werk deel uit van de expositie “Wat er gebeurt, wordt door de plaats bepaald” in de L.A.C. LIEU D’ART CONTEMPORAIN in Sigean (Frankrijk). Het is een tentoonstelling in het kader van de Beierse Cultuurweken en wordt georganiseerd door de Galerie der Künstler in München. Deze expositie presenteert twaalf kunstenaars op grond van de kwaliteit van hun werk, elk heeft of de Beierse Förderungspreis of de Förderungspreis der Landeshauptstadt München gewonnen. Ze presenteren onder andere schilderkunst, installaties, foto’s en gemengde media.
De Beierse kunstenaars Kathrin Böhm en Stefan Saffer stelden Wapke voor om als `Zaungast` mee te doen, dit in aansluiting op haar verblijf in Villa Waldberta, waar ze haar bezocht hadden.
Wapke voert primair als thema het spanningsveld op tussen fictie en werkelijkheid. Een foto van een vrolijke Wapke in een gehuurd dirndl-kostuum toont dat ze geen buitenstaander of verslaggever wil zijn als ze in Beieren is. Als kunstenaar wil ze dingen maken, lichtvoetig buiten spelen, rondkijken en mensen treffen. Haar werd aanvankelijk op het hart gedrukt dat ze eigenlijk niet in traditionele volkskleren mag rondlopen, omdat het Beiers cultuurbezit is. Toen ze uiteindelijk een kostuum kon huren, werden haar borsten goed omhoog gesnoerd, want “je moet je hart tonen in zo’n kostuum”, zeggen de Beieren. Op deze manier sloot Wapke aan bij haar eigen indrukken van München, namelijk dat de plaatslijke alledaagse kleding van de mensen heel veel verwantschap vertoont met de oorspronklijke klederdracht. De foto in de tentoonstelling is van twee jaar eerder, toen Wapke een fotoserie van zichzelf in dit Beierse volkskostuum liet maken. Ze staat te poseren op de trappen van Villa Waldberta, haar tijdelijke verblijfplaats in Beieren. Een folder met een andere foto van Wapke in Dirndl en de tekst “Immer erreichbar” uit 1998 maakte ook deel uit van deze expositie. De folder lag daar op de kleurige biertafels van Stefan Saffer. Kathrin Böhm maakte met kleurige tape een collage op de wand.
